Drawing Challenge Begins with Procreate

My husband and I have an arts background, but I have always wanted to be better at drawing. We recently started using Procreate and have started a little challenge between the two of us.

It's interesting to see our different styles. I obviously take way too long on mine, which eventually we remedied by limiting ourselves to one hour, but that's further down the line as you will note if you follow along.

Making a Mini House Diorama with Cardboard, Paint, and Sculpey

In my day job, I work with a lot of specialized archival cardboard, called blueboard. We end up with lots of scraps so I brought some home, along with a scrap of foam board, and made a little house. 

I opened up the blueboard to reveal the corrugation to make the "tin" roof. 

I had no plan. I just started making. Every day I came home from work and added this, and painted that, and plastered here, and sculpted there. 

I used DAP compound to give the house a stucco texture and for the texture of the ground. 

I painted everything using Folk Art Paints.  

I made a fence out of wood skewers.

I used my Easy Cutter to slice the skewers length wise to make the horizontal slats. Above they are being held up with cardboard while the glue dries. 

I love this Easy Cutter. Great for making angled cuts on small pieces of wood, plastic, cardboard, etc. 

Then, I had a packaging box at home that had a curved edge, and it felt like it would be a good landscape backdrop for my house. 

I channeled Bob Ross for sure. 

I painted my fence white. 

Then sculpey got involved and I added happy little trees and shrubs, a bird bath, and finally a foundation around the entire piece. I used more wood skewers to poke into the sculpey to hold up the backdrop.

I painted the back of the backdrop to look like a wooden wall.  It kind of made me think of an old abandoned billboard in the middle of nowhere. 

This has got to be the cutest thing I have ever made.  We all know mini anything is forever a winner. Why do we love miniature things so much? I don't know. Does it make us feel like kids again? Maybe? 

All I know is I completely lost track of time every time I worked on this. It was so much fun, and I'm not even done!  Stay tuned!

3D Designed and Printed Snowman and Snow Topped Trees

JC designed and printed these trees and snowmen for our family members for Christmas.  

I painted them with acrylic paints. 

The snowmen are what we like to call "interactive" because he included holes for arms that they can insert twigs into, or even toothpicks, if they wish.  

They each received one snowman and two snow topped trees.  They are so cute. 

I forgot to have him print a set just for us!

3D Printing Backlog! My Husband is on a Printing Frenzy!

He's on a roll, but he needs to slow down!

which was modified into a pencil holder.

It's probably gonna be awhile before I can get to them. 

We are having Thanksgiving at our house again this year,

and cooking and baking all next week.

More 3D Printing and Halloween Paper Crafts

I've been busy. JC keeps printing, and I keep painting and paper crafting. 

3D printed spider:

Nightmare Before Christmas Bats, Jack Skellington, and Sally cut on my Silhouette Cameo. 

My plan is to make a mobile with them:

So much stuff to finish painting here; 3D Groot, Dalek sitting on a 3D column, a water tower, a bunny, coffins and mummies. Yes, all this stuff is 3D printed, except for the paper bats, which are painted cardstock.

3D Halloween Printing Fun!

JC has been getting into the season of Halloween. 

He's dusted off the 3D printer and given me a lot of work to do painting things. 

These are magic pumpkins, before being painted. 

See the magic? When you put a light inside, a jackolantern face glows.

Below is a short video of a skeleton in the process of being printed.

 Pumpkins are all painted. Now to paint the skeleton votive holder. 

Looking spooky!

Below is a skull JC printed last year, which I just got around to painting. I did it in phases, and I just told him with this last shot, that this skull is getting scarier and scarier. I think that means I'm done with him. Pretty soon I won't be able to be in the same room with it.

I think my favorite is the coffin and mummy. 

I have yet to paint them.

Next to a cap for scale. I love miniatures, maybe that's why this is my favorite. 

 And here is one of the above pumpkins sitting on top of a lamp to demonstrate the glowing. There was a blip in the printing process, that is why you see the line through his noggin.

3D Printed and Painted Millennium Falcon

I've been moving things around and creating a painting/crafting nook for myself. I just painted a whole bunch of things yesterday and wanted to share one today.

Yesterday, every time I finished painting something, I would send a picture to Jason. He wrote back, "Good job. Now do the Millennium Falcon." and then I would send another picture, and the same thing, "Cool! Do the Millennium Falcon. NOW." ha. 

All right. All right! ha.
